I've always loved music, but throughout my pregnancy, I've found myself much more emotionally affected by music. Sure, it is probably hormones, at least that's what people have told me, but I think that it is at least partly due to looking at my life in a different way, as a mother instead of just a person.

Here are a few songs that have particularly affected me, either making me cry from joy or from sadness.

  • Hold On - Sons of Maxwell: This song is about a woman who is suffering from Alzhimer's Disease. The first time I heard this I was driving up to Michigan for my grandparents' 60th wedding anniversary, and I just burst into tears. Honestly, I still can't listen to the song or look at the lyrics without crying.

  • The One Who Knows - Dar Williams: Dar wrote this for the new generation of parents out there... the ones who want to raise their children to be happy and to trust people. It is so joyful and happy that it brings tears to my eyes. It also makes me sad, because someday my children will grow up and be their own person, and I already know that that time will come too soon for me.

  • Mars - Lori McKenna: I don't know why I like this song so much... maybe because she talks about 'my boy's brown eyes', and I envision my son having brown eyes. It is very hopefull and optomistic, with her son wanting to see Mars.
