We will have a house!
We did it. We signed all the final papers. The house is going to be ours, as soon as it is built, anyway. We are terrified and excited.

We went out to look at the lot with Travis's parents. The location of the house is staked out. It looks very odd... it sits at an angle to the court, not at all what one would expect. However, it is absolutely perfect because it means that one entire side (the side with the bay windows) and the entire back (which also has lots of windows) are sticking into the woods. Excellent. I really hope that we are reading the stakes correctly, and that they are an accurate representation of where the house will be, because we drove back to the model and told them to add the last bay window once we saw that it would not, in fact, look directly into our neighbors garage. Pretty cool. I adore bay windows. If I can't have a cupola, I want bay windows. Also, the odd angle means that the house on the hill won't look into our bedroom windows. It couldn't be better.

We are getting the additional showerhead in the master bedroom shower, which was surprisingly very cheap. Mostly what we pay is four inches of the shower seat (for the wall to hold the pipes, etc, but it should still be usable.

We went with the dark cherry cabinets. That's what I really wanted all along, but I was shying away because they are so dark. The kitchen should have tons of natural light, though, and we went with light flooring and light countertops, so it should look very nice. I hope. The cabinets are the thing that I've put the most thought into. I barely slept last night, and today I went to both Lowe's and Home Depot, looking for example kitchens to see how I would react to each. I just didn't like the other options that were offered, and I've always had a weakness for dark cherry wood. The rest of the house will have light wood (stair rails, etc). I like cherry wood with light oak or maple, so mixing wood shouldn't be a problem. The kitchen table can be very light and it will look good (in my non-designer opinion). The dark cabinets look lovely in the bathrooms, too.

I was talked out of the fake granite Formica countertop. It was risky, I admit. I think I would like it, but I'm not sure. Travis is pretty sure that he wouldn't like it. We went with a very light beige. Boring and neutral, but the strong cabinets will offset it nicely, I think.

I hope all of the decisions that we made are the right ones. And that the decisions were written down correctly! I was too jittery to actually check. Maybe I'll go back and do that tomorrow. If they'll let me. I think I'm driving Sharon insane. Xander and I have been at the model house so much that he already feels at home there.

Well, everyone else in the house is sleeping. Travis has started taking Xander to bed, which leaves me some time to myself. In theory, I'll be working during this time, but I've been wrapped up with house stuff until now. No more decisions to be made, just decisions to be regretted. Ha! Anyway, we should have some time to relax before groundbreaking in mid-February.

I should sleep.
