House: Groundbreaking!
We now own a big hole!

Keith called me today at about 10:30 and told me that he had good news, and that they would be breaking ground today instead of tomorrow. In 45 minutes. Luckily, I was ready to go out, though I had not yet decided where. So, I put a sweater on the baby and headed over.

They weren't doing anything yet... for some reason I was afraid that I would miss the first moving of dirt, though of course that is silly, and who cares? But I didn't.

The guy in charge of moving the dirt is named Roger, and he was very nice and didn't laugh at me for being there. I asked him if he thought it was strange that I was there, and he said 'No, you wouldn't believe what some people do. Some people bring videocameras... " of course I had my videocamera, but luckily he continued, "... and set them up to tape all day long." I said I brought mine and asked if he minded if I videotaped. Some people don't like to be on video, so I thought that was polite. He didn't mind.

The other guy that was there spraypainting the lines on the dirt when I got there was named 'Squirrel'. Yes, really. He was like Chong on That 70's Show. Or Chong on anything, really. Nice guy. He asked me if I had any sisters, and if they were married. I'm flattered. He told me about his Harley and his dog (who rode on his Harley while wearing goggles).

I offered to bring them coffee or lunch or anything when I came back from lunch with Travis, but they declined. They thought it was nice that I asked, though.

Keith stopped by to say hi. He is a nice guy. He was concerned that I was out there with the baby, though. He didn't want me to slip in the mud. And wow, was there mud. I was fine, though. Xander slept on my chest the entire time. He didn't even watch the heavy machinery.

So, I went to lunch with Travis, then headed back to the lot to see how much of a hole we had. It is a big hole. Very deep. It should be done by the end of the day, then they will put the concrete footers for the foundation in tomorrow.

Wow, it seemed like getting to this stage took forever, and now I bet it will go really really fast. I can't wait to move in!
