House: general update
Travis, Xander and I went and walked around the house / hole. The hole is dug. The concrete footers are in. The little pea gravel has filled in the foundation. Basically nothing has changed since my last update, but we did go together and talk about it and explore in a little more detail. I took a lot of pictures and some video.

Comparison concerns:

There is a house being built two doors down ( lot 52 ) that is several days ahead of us. So, we can go there to check out what is going to happen next. It is very interesting, because the houses (which are the same model) are being built differently.

Keith said that the different materials and techniques are just due to different subcontractors. A different team did the house down the street. Odd.

1) Our house footers have a groove down the center and no rebar hooks. 52 has just rebar hooks.

Travis talked to his dad about this, and his dad prefers the groove to the rebar. It would take so much effort to move the house that having the footers actually connected to the foundation walls is not necessary.

2) Our house has the footer for the garage molded, just like the other footers. The other house has just a straight pour in the channel around the garage.

Forgot to ask about this.

3) Our house is using PVC pipe all the way around the foundation for drainage. 52 is using blue flexible tubing.

This is just the difference in companies. Both Keith and Travis's dad said that they prefer the PVC tube becuse it doesn't crush as easily.

Other general concerns:

1) the drainage tube does not slope down all the way around the house. In fact, it takes a step up in a few places (the media room).

This is still a concern. Keith brushed it off, but Travis's dad feels that it is important. We'll research it more.

2) there seems to be a footer poured for the porch. That just seems odd. Why is the porch sitting over the basement? It doesn't seem to be that way in the model.

Forgot to ask. Not a problem, though, because we were just curious, not concerned.

3) Keith is supposed to check out the position of the house and the grade of the back to determine if we can fit another extra window down in the basement.

Probably no extra window. After the foundation has set and the grading has been done, he'll know better. Of course, he's have to cut through concrete to put one in, but...

We'll ask Keith about these things tomorrow morning.
