Friday, September 1 - camp: Camp - High Ropes, The Unicorn, Private LeadLine, Cookie Man, Awards, Water Carnival

Busy day! In the morning, I headed off to do High Ropes (women only) with Karen. Due to general staff disorganization, there wasn't enough time for everyone to do everything, so I just did one element, the PlayPen. It was surprisingly physically difficult. Heights don't bother me, and in fact, I didn't really realize that I was up high, I was working so hard. It took 15 minutes for my arms to stop hurting, and I ended up with a lovely bruise on my thigh. It was fun, though.

We left High Ropes in time to get to Arts and Crafts to see The Unicorn. My dad got pictures of the Unicorn running by, I got pictures of Xander. Xander was dressed up like a meercat, which is why he didn't have a cute little horn hat.

I arranged for a private Lead Line so that Xander could get a little more time on a horse. It was a lot of fun. He said, "Whoa!" and "Giddyup!" and "Turn!". He was directing the horse (with me leading) so he loved it. My dad got a lot of pictures.

In the afternoon, I took Xander to play at the 0/2 Nursery, then to North Beach to join his class before Cookie Man. While he was there, I took Kayli to Riding and got a picture of her wearing her Future Riding Staff shirt and riding Fudge, just in case she works there someday!

At Cookie Man today, they handed out awards to the children (so much smarter than doing it during Awards at night). Xander won the "Energizer Bunny" award, which I found particularly funny because when I worked at Camp in 1990, I played the Energizer Bunny in the Skits, back when the Energizer Bunny was new.

Then, Water Carnival! Xander was pretty tired by then, but he is always happy to play in the sand with Grandma. Kayli had fun, too, but she got pretty cold in her wet jeans. Xander built "Dinosaur Castle", which had plastic dinosaurs implanted in it. He won the "Most Prehistoric" award for it, which I had predicted. Xander loved Tootsie Fishing the most! My dad participated in the Tug of War and the Greased Watermelon Contest, which is always so much fun to watch!

Xander was SO tired by dinner time that he fell asleep on the table as soon as he got there. My softy dad couldn't stand to see him like that and picked him up to snuggle him while he slept. I love my dad!

Friday night was Keg and Coke, but we didn't go. Instead, we had a wonderful time playing bridge with my parents.

Saturday, September 2 - camp: Camp - Heading home

I took pictures of the kids wearing their Boating Future Staff shirts. Most of the boats were out of the water already, but you get the idea. Xander loved playing with the one boat that was turned over on the shore.

Sadly, after breakfast we had to leave Camp. We (by which I mean I) took an inordinate amount of time taking pictures by the Rock, and my dad even drove me back in so I could get video of us entering Camp so I can edit it into the start of the video. I'm a little obsessive sometimes. Oh really? Have you seen these photo pages?

Camp was absolutely wonderful. Xander loved it. Kayli didn't really care, but she will. I had so much fun, and I can't wait to go back. Every year, it will be more and more fun as the kids get older and more able to explore on their own. I'm so excited that they will grow up there like I did, and possibly work there some day. It is a magical place.

Saturday, September 2 - camp-other: Camp - Other People
Over the course of the week, my dad and I took a lot of pictures of other people at Camp. I've collected them all here. Feel free to browse the other pictures on my pages to see if you or your children feature in them. If you want better quality versions of any of them, please let me know. These have been reduced for web friendliness.
Saturday, September 2 - dooms: Playing at the Dooms'
Even though we had been away from home for an entire week, we couldn't resist heading over to Travis's parents' house for a night before heading back. It was so good to be there again! We got there pretty late, Xander got a haircut, we ate some pizza, put the kids to bed, then played bridge. Ronnie and I always play together, and we're trying to play together better, but that's never going to happen when I jump for no reason. We got pounded. Still, we had fun.
Sunday, September 3 - dooms: Playing at the Dooms'
We had a very relaxed day at the Dooms'. I went shopping with Sheryl in the morning, with Kayli, while Travis and his dad played with Xander.
Wednesday, September 6: Xander and Pending
Xander has decided that he likes to snuggle with Pending, so whenever Pending lies down, Xander lies down next to him. In this case, Xander actually called me to take the picture. He has been protesting photographs lately, so I was happy to oblige.
Thursday, September 7: Park with Nicole and Delia, Swimming Lessons, Marion's Piazza
I had made plans to meet with Nicole and Isaiah because we hadn't seen them in so long! They were very flexible and agreed to meet at the Beavercreek YMCA, because that's where Xander's swimming lessons were. It was hot and sticky, so we hid in the shade of a tiny tree most of the time while the kids ran around. Xander did pretty well at swimming lessons - he didn't mind that I wasn't there with him. He was pretty tired, though, from skipping his nap. After swimming lessons, we all went to Marion's Piazza for some fantastic flat pizza. I love their sausage pizza! It is the crumbly little sausage. Yum! Xander ate nearly an entire small cheese pizza, all by himself. I think he likes pizza.
Friday, September 8: Storytime, Tot Town, Riding the Hog
Today we went to Storytime at the Yellow Springs library. The theme was apples, and the librarian actually told a story (instead of reading a story), which I loved. She was very expressive and it was very well done. She also brought apples and showed us the star in the apple, which was lovely and cool. Xander was so enthralled that he actually ate a piece of apple! The best part was that I ran into an old MOMS Club friend, Cherie. Her kids are very close in age to mine, and I've always really liked her. I hope we can get together soon!

After storytime, I met Delia at Tot Town for lunch. That's pretty much all we did there; the kids didn't really play. Then we went for a walk on the bike path and Xander rode his bike. He got tired at the end, but did really well most of the way.

After all that, we came home and played on the motorcycle. Xander gave Kayli a ride and he did such a good job ensuring that she was safe! I was very proud.

Sunday, September 10: Playing around the house
Xander made a "fort" by opening my kitchen cabinets and climbing inside. Of course, Kayli wanted to play, too.
Tuesday, September 12: Swimming Lessons
Xander is taking swimming lessons without me for the first time. So far, he's failed to nap before both classes so has been quite lethargic and hasn't enjoyed it much. He's participated, though, and from my view in the lobby it looks like he is doing well.
Tuesday, September 12 - moonbeams: Moonbeams - Gathering at McDonalds
Megan and Susan were both in town briefly, so we wanted to have a big reunion playgroup. We miss them a lot already. Our Fairborn Y plans fell through because of the pouring rain, and no one could host on short notice, so we ended up at the McDonalds' Playland. It was pretty chaotic and loud. I didn't feel like I got to talk to anyone as much as I would have liked. Xander had a good time, but kicked two kids in the face (possibly accidentally, it is a dangerous place) and got in trouble for that. On the bright side, he did do an excellent job helping Connor climb up inside. Connor isn't quite tall enough, but with teamwork, they both made it to the top. I was very proud.
Wednesday, September 13: Happy Birthday, Delia!
Today was Delia's birthday! I was thrilled that she decided to spend it with me. First, we waited around for the carpet cleaners to come to my house, but they never showed up, so we FINALLY went to have lunch at the California Pizza Kitchen. The food was good, and the kids were reasonably well-behaved, but what a mess! Then we went to the play area at the mall and let the kids run wild (including Kayli) while we took turns shopping. It was fun! Kayli had a great time there... she was climbing up the slide and then climbing down the stairs. That was great until there were too many impatient bigger kids who just bowled her over. Xander played tag with a little boy and seemed to have a good time, and was even reasonably well behaved. After the mall, we went home and made dinner and cake, then enjoyed them together. Happy Birthday, Delia!
Wednesday, September 13 - birthday: Happy 10-month Birthday, Kayli!
Friday, September 15: Storytime in Yellow Springs
We've been going to storytime at the Yellow Springs library. I really like the librarian who does it, and Xander does, too. The same people always go to the ones in Yellow Springs, so we're going to have lunch at a park together next week. Yay, new friends!
Friday, September 15 - whites: Friday in Maumee Bay
Kayli and I headed up to Maumee, Ohio for our annual girls-only weekend to celebrate Rebecca, Melissa, and Nancy's birthdays. My mom and Becky were there when I arrived, and it was just the three of us for a while. Well, three and a third. Kayli's pretty little. Nancy showed up later and we all went to dinner in the hotel bar. Kayli crawled all over the table. Bad habit! We took her swimming after dinner in her new bathing suit and she was so cute. She was tired and went to bed as soon as we got back, so the rest of us sat around in the other (adjoining) room and chatted. Bedtime came early in anticipation of a busy (but relaxing) Saturday.
Saturday, September 16 - whites1: Saturday in Maumee Bay

On Saturday, my mom and I got up early. She played with Kayli while I took a luxuriously long shower in the not-so-luxurious shower. She took Kayli for a walk while I relaxed in the room after that, which was so nice! I got to spend some time programming, and that always makes me happy. My mom and I took Kayli to breakfast at the hotel restaurant before everyone else got up.

Becky and Nancy woke up about the same time that Melissa showed up, so they all went to lunch in the hotel bar. We eventually sought them out because they had been gone forever (service was very slow in both hotel eating establishments). We all headed to the boardwalk. We ended up taking a 2-mile hike in some beautiful woods and wetlands. Gorgeous!

We went back to the room after that and just chatted. There was a lot of that this weekend. Before dinner, my mom and I went for a bike ride. We tried to take Kayli, but that was a disaster. She REALLY didn't like it.

Dinner was in the hotel restaurant, and Kayli was VERY well-behaved (unlike the previous two meals). After that, we all went to the pool, where Kayli, my mom, my sister, and I all got wet. Nancy and Becky chatted and took pictures.

The evening was for presents, cake, and musical cards, and more chatting. Much laughing over the musical song choices (none of which I knew - I'm so out of it.) Happy Birthday, everyone (else)!

Saturday, September 16 - whites2: Saturday in Maumee Bay (Dad's Camera)
Pictures I took on Saturday with my Dad's camera.
Sunday, September 17 - whites1: Sunday in Maumee Bay
Sunday was a very relaxed day. My mom and I got up early and played outside with Kayli. After a while, the people in the other room woke up and most of us went to a fantastic brunch! Possibly the best brunch I've ever had, and I've been to a lot of brunches. Yum! After that, we just played outside for a long time, after moving out of rooms. It was very nice to just chat. Everyone except me went for a walk and left me playing in the shade with Kayli, which was very peaceful. My laptop enjoyed it, too. Unfortunately, we had to say goodbye, and headed home around 4:00pm.
Sunday, September 17 - whites2: Sunday in Maumee Bay (Dad's Camera)
Pictures I took on Sunday with my Dad's camera.
Monday, September 18: Back to the Grind
I've returned home to my usual grind of going to the library to get Xander his own library card, then heading to the park for some swinging, then coming home for rest time and playing. Tough life.
Tuesday, September 19: Beautiful Day - Beautiful Kids (Dad's Camera)
It was just a beautiful day out today. Cool and crisp and sunny. I took a bunch of pictures of the kids playing outside. I wish I could have gotten some good ones of them together, but neither was cooperative.
Wednesday, September 20
Thursday, September 21: Happy Birthday Travis!

Xander had been complaining about not knowing any of the children at school, and said that he thought he would know them all again if he got to stay for the entire day. Well, ok. So, we signed him up for a whole day there, and he loved it. When I picked him up at 4:15, he wanted to say for a few more hours, he said. We played in the sandbox a little bit before we left, or more accurately, before I realized that in the course of my Xander-less errands that day I had taken his car seat out of my car, so I couldn't take him home. He got to go in the Blue Room for a while, which had different toys! How exciting!

After that, we met Travis at home and headed out to California Pizza Kitchen for dinner, and then bought Travis a new racquetball racquet and glove. He's been playing a lot recently and had worn out his previous racquet. We spent a lot of time playing at the mall play area they've just put in for kids. Kayli loves it there!

Saturday, September 23 - house: House - Landscaping
I am finally getting around to doing something with our flower beds. I'm going to fill them up with ground cover so we don't need to mulch or weed. It will take a year or two to fill in, but after that, no maintenance! Yay! I ordered 600 pachysandra plants from ebay, so I need to get my soil amended before it arrives. It is pure clay. Xander is helping "break dirt up" a lot.
Sunday, September 24: Kayli likes popcorn!

Kayli was watching Veronica Mars with us one evening, and we were eating popcorn. She REALLY wanted the popcorn and wouldn't leave us alone, so finally we nibbled off the hard parts and gave her the nice soft round part. She loved it! She probably ate 30 of them, and was chasing Travis around for more. We could barely nibble the hard parts off fast enough, and we weren't getting to eat any popcorn. It was funny.

That night, we all slept in the "little bed" (the full-sized bed that Travis and I bought before we had kids. Xander put his around Kayli to snuggle her and keep her warm. How cute is that?

Monday, September 25: Siebenthaler's
Xander, Kayli, and I went to check out ground covers at Siebenthaler's Garden Center. They had a play area and a trampoline for kids to play on, so Xander did.
Tuesday, September 26: School and swimming lessons
Xander wanted to take me out to the playground at school after I checked him out, so we played out there for a short while. After that, Xander napped, then we headed to swimming lessons. Kayli looks like a real toddler in these pictures!
Wednesday, September 27: Connor and Xander cook
Connor, Kyle, and Delia came over to bring me their wheelbarrow and to help outside a bit. I was working, so I didn't take many pictures, but when Xander and Connor were cooking with Steak and Shake hats on, I couldn't resist. Xander put Connor's hat on him, then straightened it up when it fell in his eyes. It was so gentle and adorable! Xander and Connor are finally starting to play together successfully.
Friday, September 29: Storytime and Playing Outside

On Fridays we've been going to storytime at the Yellow Springs Library. Kayli and Xander both enjoy it, and the other attendees are very nice. There are a lot of the same people that were there when I was going with Xander a year ago.

In the afternoon, we worked outside a lot. Xander was enjoying his Tigger costume again. He and Kayli had a great time playing in the wheelbarrow. Travis gave them some fun tides!
