Tuesday, February 6: Legos! We've moved our Legos to the dining room, in one of the bay windows, and it is the perfect place for them. It is so bright and sunny in that location; it is perfect for keeping us from feeling depressed on these long winter days. We spend at least an hour every day playing with Legos. Xander likes for us to build cars and trucks and vehicles, and he likes to use them to push the other Legos around. He really enjoys it when we build things from a "menu" (manual). I like that, too, but it is definitely hard when Kayli is around! |

Thursday, February 8: Outside with Kayli Kayli has been desperate to go outside. It is really cold out, but she doesn't care. So, I bundled her up and let her wander around in our cul-de-sac. We'll have to teach her that she can't go in the street in the summer, but for now, it is the only play without a foot of snow. |
Friday, February 9: Outside with both kids To avoid going stir crazy, we all bundled up and went outside. Xander tried to sled down the huge pile of snow in front of our mailbox (I'm sure the mailman loves us), but snow kept getting in his boots. |
Saturday, February 10: Potty wagons and riding Xander I recently got the (well disinfected) potty seats out again. Kayli's young to potty train, of course, but she likes to sit on them sometimes. More often, however, she likes to use them as wagons. She loads them up and pushes them around the house, usually on the hard floor. Kayli was riding on Xander, and they were both laughing their heads off! Having two kids is fun. |
Sunday, February 11: Climbing in the Potty Kayli also likes to climb in the potty. I don't know where she gets these ideas. Silly baby! |
Monday, February 12: Xander can Wink! Xander can wink! "How you doin'?" He winks all the time... even at strangers, who think it is hilarious. An older man in the grocery store caught me and saidgruffly, "Your little boy just winked at my wife." Then HE winked. My mom loves it when he winks at her. He can only wink with one eye, so far, but he's working on the other. |
Wednesday, February 14: Outside again, and painting Xander has really started to enjoy painting. Not as much as he'd enjoy taking the easel apart and reassembling it, but we can't do that all the time, so sometimes he paints. I've taped his painting up in the windows, so the light shines through them, and they are gorgeous! |
Saturday, February 17: Grandpa Visit My dad stopped by after driving a car down, and stay for the entire afternoon. Xander loved the big truck that Grandpa was driving. It had 4-wheel drive, so Grandpa could drive right onto the unshoveled part of our driveway! We rode in the bed while he did that, so it was very exciting. |
Monday, February 19: Wet baby Kayli can be entertained for at least an hour by a pan of water and some buckets and measuring cups. This results in her being completely drenched, but it keeps her happy. We usually have a nice warm bath afterwards. |
Tuesday, February 20: Shoe lover Kayli likes shoes already. How did this happen? We have a boy who loves trucks and a girl who loves shoes? How typical. I bought these adorable black shoes with small heels for her to wear for Christmas (cheap at Once Upon a Child). She wore them once or twice. She found them, though, in the mud room and brought them to me and insisted that I put them on her. Then she clomped around on the hard floor, grinning like a fool. |
Sunday, February 25: Xander's Underwear Kayli likes to wear other people's underwear. I hope this isn't a lifelong habit. She takes my (clean) underwear and puts it over her head, and wears them like necklaces. She'll end up with three or four pairs around her neck. Xander's underwear sits on her head, but sometimes she wants them put on the usual way. The obvious Bandaid on her forehead is covering the still-healing chicken pock that we are trying to protect to prevent it from scarring, even though that seems unlikely at this point. |

Tuesday, February 27: Playing outside, and Xander's dentist visit It was cold, again, but the kids really wanted to go out, so we did. I'm a pushover for things that are good for the kids, even if they are uncomfortable for me. The snow had an inch-thick crust of snow on it, which was pretty cool at first, but once Xander fell through once, he really lost interest. They had fun anyway. Xander was SO GOOD at the dentist's. He did exactly what he was told, and lay very very still, and was friendly to everyone. This was his second visit, so I guess he knew what to expect. He had NO cavities, and got his picture on the Cavity-Free board again. |
Wednesday, February 28: Snuggled Kayli The kids love being outside. Today, they wanted to take a walk, so we bundled Kayli up. Xander pushed the stroller or rode his bike, and I carried his bike or pushed the stroller, depending. |
